Each year all Packs, Troops, Crews, Ships, and Posts are required to recharter their unit. This process ensures that your unit's membership and Youth Protection Training records are up-to-date and accurate so that all members are protected and covered by insurance. It also assures that all Scouts are correctly listed so that advancement can be correctly and easily recorded.
On-line rechartering is the best method to help insure that the information you provide is accurate and current. On-line rechartering can be done from the convenience of your home or office. It’s secure and easy-to-use.
Please Note:All charters must be submitted at the November Roundtable. If for some reason you cannot submit your charter in November there will be a Council wide Last Chance Charter Turn-in Day on Saturday December 14th. All charters must be submitted no later than December 14th. This is necessary to allow enough time for your charter to be processed prior to its expiration on December 31st.
The primary goal of the Boy Scouts of America is the safety of youth. For that reason, all registered leaders are required to complete this training before their registration can be renewed!
The Online Recharter System will not allow your unit to charter with adults who do not have up-to-date Youth Protection Training. YPT reports can be pulled by your unit's Key-3 Leaders (unit leader, Charter Representative, and Committee Chair), their designated Delegate, or the Training Chair through My.Scouting.org
You will need to review the roster and inform individuals that they will need to take the Youth Protection Training if that YPT is set to expire during the new charter year. Direct them to My.Scouting.org web site and have them complete the training and give you a copy of the certificate of competition to turn in with your re-charter paperwork.
Background Checks
The policy of the BSA is to perform background checks periodically for currently registered leaders beginning with this charter cycle. Every registered leader must complete a new Background Check Authorization form in order to be included on their unit’s roster for 2020.
The National Office sent these three forms to each leader with a valid email address on October 7th. Please print, sign, and include the Additional Disclosures & Background Check Authorization form with your unit’s charter.
